Self-test for the determination of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in whole blood samples.
This test was developed vfor men aged 45 and over with urinary tract complaints or as periodic screening. A PSA test is recommended for men with complaints such as difficulty urinating, pain in the urethra and frequent urination. Periodically checking the PSA level in the blood is useful for verifying the health of the prostate: in the case of possible prostate cancer, early diagnosis and good prevention can save lives.
This product currently only has Dutch instructions as a package leaflet. Multilingual instruction in German and French is only available online.
This test has a manual in Dutch. Manuals in other languages can be consulted digitally.

Self-test for the determination of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in whole blood samples
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. Its function is to dilute the ejaculate, allowing better sperm motility.
PSA also plays a role in dissolving cervical mucus, facilitating the entry of sperm into the uterus.
Normally, PSA is present in small amounts in the blood of men with a healthy prostate. Prostate diseases (such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia and cancer) lead to an increase in PSA levels in the blood. PSA levels also increase naturally with age, after prostate surgery or after specific diagnostic tests (such as rectal examination, prostate biopsy and prostate ultrasound).
