The usefulness of the alcohol tester for personal use
Have you ever thought about purchasing an alcohol tester for your own use? If you often go to a party by car or drive back by car after drinking a lot of alcohol after a social gathering, you are taking a big risk. You may already know that it is dangerous for both you and your fellow road users to drive while drinking alcohol. If you are involved in a car accident, you should always take a breath test. Even if you did not cause the accident, you can still expect a hefty fine if you have too high an alcohol content in your blood. These fines do not concern a few tens of euros, but can amount to hundreds of euros. This makes the alcohol tester highly recommended for personal use. This way you can test how much alcohol is in your blood before you leave and whether it is still wise to drive the car. You can then choose to use another form of transport where you do not drive the means of transport yourself. This will save you a hefty fine and possible loss of your driving privileges.
The alcohol tester and legislation
You are not required to have the alcohol tester in your car in the Netherlands for personal use. However, it is recommended. This way you can always check how much alcohol you have in your blood. There may be a maximum of 0,5 per mille of alcohol in your blood. This includes 0,25 milligrams of alcohol per air you exhale. If you have had your driving license for less than five years, you may only have 0,2 per mille of alcohol in your blood, which corresponds to 1 standard glass of alcohol.
Travel alcohol tester
If you are planning to travel to beautiful France soon, you are required to have an alcohol tester with the NF quality mark in your car. However, you will not be fined if you do not do this. If the police stop you for a breath test, they use their own devices that can also be used as evidence. The alcohol tester you have is therefore only to check whether you are allowed to drive or whether you comply with French legislation. If you do not have an alcohol tester with the NF quality mark or if your tester is no longer valid for use beyond its expiration date, the Gendarmerie or Police National may require you to purchase an approved alcohol tester. This could cause you a significant delay in your journey.
